Worldwide nuclear stockpiles bigger than ever.


The isolated efforts of a scarcely any nations to reprocess and dispose of weapons-grade fissile materials have failed to restore the world's supply of dangerous nuclear material, a fresh report says--in fact, global stockpiles are growing. The report appears in the November/December 2004 issue of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists.

The Institute of Science and International Security (ISIS) estimates that through the end of 2003 about 60 nations held more than 3700 tonnes of plutonium and highly enriched uranium (HEU).
