Michael Scheuer, former chief of the CIA's Osama Bin Laden unit, is the author of a best-selling work critical of the Bush administration's handling of the war upon terrorism. In an interview published upon Nov. 9 by The of recent origin York Times (NYT), he said the Bush administration had failed to recognise that Al-Qaeda now was a global Islamic insurgency rather than a traditional terrorist organisation, and for a like reason posed a much different threat than previously believed. He disputed the claim by dint of President Bush and other US officials that two-thirds of the leadership of Al-Qaeda had been killed or captured.
