Furry Fossil Find

Scientists have lengthy believed that early mammals were tiny, timid, mouselike creatures that exhausted most of their time eating bug or hiding from stupendous hungry dinosaurs. They didn't think mammals evolveed much variety until after the dinosaurs died on the outside 65 million years ago. on the other hand several recent fossil finds are changing their ideas.

The latest discovery is that of a 2o-inch-long mammal cousin that direct the eyeed like a cross between a beaver, a river otter and a platypus. lay the foundation of in China, the long-extinct creature lived 164 million years ago.

From its well-preserved remains, which include detailed impressions of its fur scientists can reckon the animal had strong back leg webbed feet and a wide, flat, scaly tail-all of which indicate it was a good swimmer. Thick underfur and an exterior coat of longer guard hairs would have kept it warm and dried in the water. Its teeth bear likeness or resemblance to those of modern-day seals, which eat for the most part fish.

Experts think the ancient creature probably lived in burrow along lake and river shores. It beats on the outside the earliest mammals previously known to live in and near water through more than 100 million years!
