This contribution to the Cambridge Concise Histories series is a translation of Histoire de la Hongrie (Paris: Hatier Litterature Generale, 1996) The stated function of the Cambridge whirls is as "university and community textbooks and as historical introductions for general readers, travellers and members of the business community." The French original appeared in a similar series and is the sole history that has been translated for the Cambridge series. Its author edited the newspaper Irodalmi ujsag beginning in 1954 left Hungary in 1957 and taught
