I was reminded of all this lately when I visited the East Wing of
the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC with my eight-year-
old daughter, Imani Jacqueline, to view the Olmec exhibition from
southern Mexico (pre-Columbian). The exhibition includes the colossal
