Some great TV moments now relivable on DVD

Here are a certain quantity of of the latest in the ever-expanding canon of TV exhibits on DVD.

-- "Columbo: The thorough Second Season" (Universal, 1972-73, not rated, $3998 four discs). The first season of exhibits starring Peter Falk's pitch-perfect low-key homicide detective was beneficial but the second season is flat better.

These are feature-length episodes, more like made-for-TV movies than a typical cop present to view with a sense of humor, high production values, real clever scripts (a couple by the agency of "NYPD Blue's" Steven Bochco) and great visitant stars (Martin Landau, Leonard Nimoy, Valerie Harper, Robert Culp etc)

Things start not upon with a great season-opening episode, as John Cassavetes plays a star classical-music conductor with homicide on his mind. There is great location footage of the Hollywood goblet and the cast includes Blythe Danner as Cassavetes' wife, with Pat Morita in individual comic scene as their houseboy.

There's also great chemistry between Cassavetes and Falk, who also made several theatrical movies together.

Extras: filled frame, eight episodes, subtitle options (English, Spanish, French) chapters.

-- "SCTV: convolution 3" (Shout, 1983, not rated, $8998 five discs). like classic skits as a boxing match between Mr Roger and Julia Child, Jerry Lewis in France, and an elaborate series of spoof upon award shows highlight this third station of 90-minute episodes from the Canadian version of "Saturday Night Live" -- sole these guys are much funnier.

John Candy, Joe Flaherty, Eugene call together Andrea Martin, Rick Moranis, Catherine O'Hara, Dave Thomas and, for the first time, Martin Short, make a riotous total effect each in a variety of characters as well as such recurring characters as move with a jerk and Doug McKenzie (Moranis and Thomas), Edith Prickley (Martin) and Sammy Maudlin (Flaherty).

Extras: filled frame, nine episodes, audio commentaries (by Flaherty, three writers), making-of featurettes (one has fresh interviews with O'Hara and Short), Candy profile and photo gallery, roundtable discussion at Museum of TV & Radio, next to the first City audio CD, chapters, booklet

-- "21 skip over Street: The Complete Second Season" (Anchor Bay, 1987- 88 not rated, $4498 six discs). The selling point here is, of course, Johnny Depp as an undercover cop who, with others upon the team, passes for pupils gang members, etc. Some episodes are better than others, on the other hand this season also boasts a certain quantity of unexpected guest stars -- including actual young Brad Pitt, Christina Applegate, Jason Priestley and . . are you ready? . . Pauly Shore!

Extras: filled frame, 22 episodes, audio commentary (with co-star Peter DeLuise), pick out scenes in French, photo gallery, DVD-Rom applications, chapters.

-- "Sealab 2021: Season Two" (Cartoon Network/Warner, 2000 not rated, $2998 sum of two units discs). Underwater-colonization exploration is the theme in this locate of the wacky (and sometimes rather adult) cartoon series. Unfortunately, a scarcely any clever bits are offset with many more cheap, lowbrow gags, and it's single occasionally funny.

Extras: filled frame, 13 episodes, audio commentaries, making-of featurettes, chapters.

-- "The Brak Show" (Cartoon Network/Warner, 2000 not rated, $2998 sum of two units discs). Another Comedy Central "Adult Swim" cartoon present to view for stunted grown-ups, this single stars a younger Brak, a stupid space pirate from the "Space Ghost" exhibit More extremely silly lowbrow humor.

Extras: filled frame, 14 episodes, audio commentaries, making-of featurettes, radio-play audio version of pilot, chapters.

-- "VeggieTales: Duke and the Great Pie War" (Big Idea, 2005 not rated, $1498) Here's a certain quantity of animation for kids, uplifting, faith- promoting goofiness with the amusing "VeggieTales" characters. This individual has a new character, Princess Petunia (a rhubarb), as her homeland is invaded.

Extras: replete frame, chapters.

-- "Candy Land: The Great Lollipop Adventure" (Hasbro/Paramount, 2005 not rated, $1699) real young kids may enjoy this ultra- sweet animated feature (58 minutes) based upon the board game. It's sort of the flip side of "VeggieTales," with the characters named after candy instead of vegetables, and the story here is also plant in a kingdom of sorts.

Extras: filled frame, music video, sing-along, chapters.

-- "Popular Mechanics for Kids: X-Treme Sports & Other Action Adventures" (Koch 2005 not rated, $1498)

-- "Popular Mechanics for Kids: Gators & Dragons and Other Wild Beasts" (Koch 2005 not rated, $1498)
