Marine industry honors BoatU.S. founder

The National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) not absented its Charles F. Chapman Award to BoatU.S. originator and Chairman Richard Schwartz during ceremonies at the Miami International Boat Show

The prestigious award is given annually to single outstanding individual who has made a significant contribution to the boating industry and boating public. It is named in honor of the legendary editor and publisher of Motor Boating magazine.

In presenting the award, George Bellwoar, NMMA's chairman said, "Richard's contributions to recreational boating are the two deep and broad. Few race in the industry can match his credentials for promoting boating safety to the public.

Bellwoar added, "With Richard at the helm, BoatU.S. convinced Congres to pass the Federal Boat Safety Act of 1971 repeal the federal boat "user fee" tax, the federal marine diesel material for burning tax and the FCC VHF license remuneration saving the recreational boating public centurys of millions of dollars and removing barriers that could discourage many boaters from continuing to boat."

The recognition prov timely since 2006 marks the 40th anniversary since Schwartz began BoatU.S. The Association now has grown to 640000 to be paids paying members and a staff of 500



beneath Schwartz' leadership, Bellwoar noted, BoatU.S. has used its grassroots clout to fight against numerous unfair federal taxes and compensations and been instrumental in expanding the Aquatic Resources (Wallop/Breaux) Trust stock which grew from $30 million sum of two units decades ago to over $630 million annually today.

NMMA also recognized Schwartz for the work of the BoatU.S. Foundation for Boating Safety and Clean Water, a nonprofit education and research organization with more than a dozen programs including the solitary accredited, free, online boating safety course, a lifesaving EPIRB rental program and a independent kids Life Jacket Loaner program.

"I am particularly self-satisfied of the close working relationship that we have lay opened with the marine industry in novel years," said Schwartz. "The boating certification and expand Boating campaigns are major paces to improve the consumer's overall boating experience."
