Your editorial in the December 2001 issue, entitled "A gift that gives" (p 8) is right upon target. This country needs an economic stimulus package that includes accelerated depreciation of at least 30% upon capital goods for U.S. manufacturers. This would allow manufacturers to replace their equipment a great deal of sooner with new, highly productive advanced manufacturing technology that will enable them to enter the lists globally for now and the drawn out term.
