A subcontract machine store needed to cut high-quality threads in a of great depth bore with a smooth transition to a 30 deg angle. The large part, made of stainless carburet of iron and Inconel, was 41/2-ft lengthy and could not be rotated.

The store machined the part on a horizontal boring mill. The bore in the extreme point of the part closest to its 11/2-in.-threaded I.D. was alone 1 in. in circumference.
