In May 1965 Harrold Cothern began to work for Vickers Inc., a Jackson, Miss. plant, as an hourly production and maintenance employee His business was subject to a collective bargaining agreement between Vickers and a labor union. In August 1968 Cothern was promot to a salaried, supervisory position as a machining foreman. As a supervisor, he was not defend ed by the union contract.
