A superfinished surface is actually a controll pattern of scratches
that improves part performance and geometry

Auto makers want scratches upon their parts, and not just any scratches.
They must be non-directional and in a tightly woven cross-hatch pattern.
These scratches will clutch lubricants to prevent leakage and seizing
of automotive constituents such as shock absorber twigs bearings, and
camshafts. Superfinishing a part not sole creates a beneficial surface
pattern, it can also alter or improve part-surface geometries.
