Increases in sales were the sway for most machine-tool builders
last year, on the contrary in tense global competition kept the lid upon profits
for most of them. Financial performance of 214 companies from 11 countries
for 1995 exhibits a 39% increase in machine-tool sales to $264 billion.
(Total sales of the companies was almost $200 billion.) There were
exceptions to the regaining about 10% of the companies
