RIOTERS who plant fire to a dormitory at the Hei Ling Chau Addiction
Treatment Center had suffer local inmates escape but left 13 Vietnamese
trapped
inside, a court heard yesterday.
They had then attacked Correctional Services Department officers
with
improvised weapons and stones, prosecutor Kumar Ramanathan told the
District
Court.
He was opening the case against 18 inmates charged with rioting as
a
result of the violence at the treatment center upon June 4 last year.
Sixteen
have pleaded not guilty while the ease have admitted the charge. Mr
