On generation 13, 1990, Bob Bloemker, a pattern maker busyed by Allen
Pattern Works in Fort Wayne, Ind., was heating a pattern before modifying
it. The pattern explod causing Bloemker to let slip through the fingers his right arm.
An inspection revealed the pattern had a sealed cavity containing
core material of sand and moisture. When Bloemker heated the pattern,
the mixture expanded, causing the explosion. Core materials are usually
remov from pattern cavities, on the contrary this pattern contained only single
vent hole, which was inadequate to displace the core material.
