Today, in Jamaica, all that remains of Marcus Garvey's childhood place of abode in St. Ann's Bay is the house's foundation. The house has an attractive air, and its interior is filled with period furniture and artifacts; its restaurant is a great place to have lunch

Perhaps Devon House's main draw for American Visions readers will be its African Museum, a small collection of artifacts that pertain to the diaspora's nearness on the island. For locals, notwithstanding that the house's grounds are probably the principal attraction. Here, individual finds a string of small stores including I-Scream, widely considered the best source for ice cream upon the island, and the Brick Oven whose chicken patties are delectable. Many Jamaican immigrants to the States, similar as Boston's Karen McFarlane, "always stop in [at the Brick Oven] to catch a taste of childhood" during their visits back to the island. (Of course, as McFarlane adds, Boston is not exactly famous for the breadth of its Jamaican restaurants.)
