Diaz is an persuasive combination of Piri Thomas, Dany Laferriere, and Langston Hughes - dazzling writing and vibrant plats that entertain and enlighten. And like John Fante, Diaz is high literature for belonging to all folks. Even in his presentation of words, Diaz stands apart. Rather than use quotation marks to denote dialogue, he has adopted the Latin American manner of writing which presents dialogue as straight power narrative. The flow is a rate visual and auditory style As a writer, Diaz is a wicked orchestra conductor: In "Drown" the reader can hear and have feeling the narrator swimming in the swimming loch one minute and experience the emotional discomfort of a homosexual clash in the next.
