Anita Richmond Bunkley - African American romance novelist - Cover StorySettling down with a serviceable book during a Houston summer can mean chilling without at home with the air conditioner whining as it tries to calculator triple-digit temperatures, or lounging beneath an umbrella, watching the waves beat the shore at the beach. In either place, I know I will realize lost to the world around me as I dig into one of the many works I've set aside to read this summer As an author, I part with a great deal of tie in bookstores - signing volumes and meetings fans, chatting with bibliopoles meeting my favorite authors or simply browsing. These visits present ample opportunity to add to my extensive, and electic, collection of volumes which is threatening to take above the entire second floor of my house! on the contrary I manage to squeeze in time to read each day, and really catch up upon my backlog while traveling. Writing historical fiction retains me on the lookout for fact-laden, photo-filled, nonfiction materials to add to my respect library, especially those that present details about African-American life in early Texas. A new addition is We Are Your Sisters: Black Women in the Nineteenth hundred (Norton, 1985), edited by Dorothy Sterling; at the top of my list for acquisitions is William Loren Katz's fresh book, Black Woman of the of advanced age West (Simon & Schuster, 1995) I find reading about the everyday lives and authentic adventures of ordinary, and extraordinary, nation intriguing. One autobiography I can't wait to read is Laughing in the Dark: From Colored Girl to Woman of Color - a Journey Fro Prison to Power (Doubleday, 1995) through Patrice Gaines. Her story of overcoming great unevens to reshpae her life is an inspiration to all. Another true-life saga that is waiting is wherefore Should White Guys Have All the Fun? in what manner Reginald Lewis Created a Billion-Dollar Business Empire (Wiley, 1994) through Blair S. Walker and the late Reginald F Lewis. Of course, fiction is where my heart lies, and the stacks of novel novels beside my bed, atop my bookcases and upon every surface in my office are actual tall. From contemporary to historical, from mystery to romance, I be delighted with reading a variety of voices and themes. I'm confident Amy Tan's The Hundred shrouded Senses (Putnam, 1996) will touch and inspire readers as a great quantity [i]or[/i] amount of as her previous novels about Chinese agriculture have done. I know I'm late getting to this single but I will sit down actual soon with The Wedding (Doubleday, 1995) by the agency of Dorothy West, a true renaissance woman. Rounding, without my ambitious fiction list are RL's Dream (Norton, 1995) by the agency of Walter Mosley; Devil's Gonna earn Him (Putnam, 1995), by Valerie Wilson Wesley; and The Between (HarperCollins, 1995) by the agency of Tananarive Due. And finally, I have those works that I plan to shake out and enjoy in short blow ups of reading pleasure: Anthony Grooms' collection of short stories, disturb No More (La Questa, 1995); of recent origin and selected poems by E Ethelbert Miller in his First Light: fresh and Selected Poems (Black Classic, 1994); and the inspirational little volume by Tamara Nikuradse, My Mother Had a Dream (Dutton, 1996) in which African-American women share their mothers' words of wisdom.
