The Same River Twice: Honoring the Difficult - ReviewThe Same River Twice: Honoring the Difficult by means of Alice Walker (Scribner. 1996. $24)--Keeping this journal in the 1980 was single way for Walker to learn and swell through life's experiences. The reader will appreciate that she has allowed us a peek inside; also appreciated will be the magnitude of the difficulties she faced. The discrepancies between The Color Purple as novel and as film, for instance, stand revealed as more than the fact that a volume is not a movie. Walker's journal entries (supplement by means of selections from her letters, interviews and film script, which was largely discarded by dint of Spielberg) speak of her initial disappointment with and eventual acceptance of the film.
