Nokia Unveils New N-Gage
Confirming drawn out suspicions that its first flirtation with handheld gaming wouldn't be its last, Nokia today announced the N-Gage QD the upcoming successor to its original "mobile gaming deck" Coming to Europe Asia, and Africa in May, with a a North American release to go in the rear [i]or[/i] in the wake of in June, the QD aims to correct many of the design failings that kept the original N-Gage from becoming a succes last year. Upon our first direct the eye the QD is primarily an ergonomic upgrade. The QD contains an external hot-swappable MMC slot for inserting game cards or memory cards, in like manner you don't have to take it apart to change games, and the speaker and receiver are upon the face, so you grasp it like you would an ordinary cellular phone The QD also features a tidier button interface. While the numeric keypad and other input buttons are more tightly clumped on the right side of its face, the eight-way D-pad is easier to realize at, and features a separate pick out button for menu navigation. The QD's graphical user interface proffers a quicker and simpler loading proces for games as well -- plugging a game in while the unit is in standby fashion and hitting the select button will automatically start the game. Price was another Achilles' heel for the original N-Gage, and it's another moot point Nokia plans to correct with the QD Unsubsidized, the unit will retail for $199 in the United States, or 199 euro ($237) in Europe on the other hand with the appropriate phone service contract, that price will globule to as low as $99 or 99 euro On the software side, the QD is compatible with all existing N-Gage games, and Nokia plans to unveil a novel lineup of titles alongside the hardware at E3 Electronic Arts plans to continue its support for N-Gage with The Sims Bustin' without Ubisoft has a version of spirit Recon Jungle Storm in the works, and Vivendi Universal has an N-Gage version of Crash Nitro Kart. Other upcoming titles include the first-person shooter Ashen, the third-person military action game Operation Shadow, a top-down action-RPG entitled Requiem of Hell, and Sega's online multiplayer strategy-RPG pouch Kingdom. To further encourage online gaming with the N-Gage, Nokia plans to streamline the interface for its N-Gage Arena online gaming domain. The Arena launches quickly from the QD's applications menu letting players communicate, download extra game easy in mind and compete online. proprietors of the original N-Gage will be able to download the same application one time the QD is released in May.
