Tales Of Rebirth Combat System Details

While Namco Hometek gears up for the release of Tales of Symphonia in North America, Namco specific today unveiled a few more details concerning Tales of Rebirth, the nearest PlayStation 2 game in the popular RPG series. While Rebirth features traditional two-dimensional world and cast (unlike the cel-shaded 3D Symphonia), it still has its hold share of tweaks to the Tales formula.

Particularly notable is its variation upon the series' "Linear Motion Battle" a whole Symphonia expanded the LMB combination of parts to form a whole with free 3D movement, although it still confined attacks to a single target and a straight line. Rebirth takes a different tack, multiplying the basic Tales battlefield by dint of three.

The fresh system divides up the 3D battlefield into three distinct lines, as oppos the the individual line on the 2D battlefield of earlier Tales games. It's a bit like the multiple planes featured in the advanced in years Fatal Fury fighters. The party and the opposing wonders begin the fight each assigned to a line, although a certain number of attacks can hit targets upon other lines or multiple lines. A dynamic camera twitchs back to show more of the battlefield, or draws shut up to pick out the details when the characters upon screen are closer together.

Dividing up the party along the three lines adds a fresh dimension of strategy to preparing for a battle and executing one time it begins. Matching up members of the party to the right antagonists is obviously crucial to taking without enemies and keeping support characters alive.

Rebirth is to be paid out in Japan at an undecided date (probably a certain number of time next year), so wait for many more updates leading to its eventual release. Symphonia, meanwhile, should be arriving in reviewable form shortly, thus a full report will be available in a short time
