Mario 64x4 DS

Despite the pronunciation, this is not about marvel trucks -- it's a four-player battle game starring Mario, Luigi, Wario, and Yoshi that takes place in the Super Mario 64 world. Or at least individual area of that world, as you play in the area in brow of the main castle, racing the other characters to gather stars placed around the map. If individual of your opponents gets a star, you can bore him to make him globule it, so it becomes like a battle way of sorts.

Because of the placement of the buttons, it's a bit difficult to push the bore button while running (which you'll want to do often) on the other hand otherwise the controls will have feeling familiar to Mario 64 veterans, notwithstanding that Yoshi's double jump in 3D does perceive a bit odd if you're used to it in 2D The button layout places run on the Y button, bore on the A button, duck/block upon the X button, and skip over on the B button. The triggers rotate the camera, and you can also do dives and other propels using certain combinations of the buttons and d-pad. The main difference in sways from the N64 game is that there is no analog stick for the D in the way that Mario's movement is not quite as intuitive.

We tried a not many different battles, and each was simple enough -- move swiftly after stars, punch people, repeat. We imagine that the final game will have a apportionment more environments and options, because right now it appear to bes a lot like a fancy demo that establishs the DS can do 3D graphics well.

Graphically, the game doesn't direct the eye quite as nice as the N64 version of the game, on the contrary it has the same general have feeling and certain details may level look better in the D version on close inspection, so we're quite impressed with the 3D technology upon display. In general, objects gaze nicer from far away than they do up close; if you gaze at a tree it direct the eyes nice and furry from a distance, on the other hand when you get up shut it appears less smooth and more blocky Not terribly for a like reason but it's a little les pretty

Apparently there is also a single-player version of this game. We haven't seen it at the same time but it is supposed to feature the same four characters and suffer you switch between them at will. We'll be back upon that one once we hear more, since it appears like a more traditional Mario 64 port.
