Catwoman

Over the past small in number years, EA has proven that a game based upon some movie or TV exhibit doesn't have to be a cookie-cutter move swiftly through the motions. Just because you're controlling Superman doesn't mean you have to gather pieces of Kryptonite and bring them to your alien overlords. Instead, EA and other companies have tried to make the game compliment the movie in useful ways -- ensuring that the movie's target audience will be attracted to the game the way an inland catfish is attracted to bits of Velveeta upon a hook.

With the game version of Catwoman (due on the outside July 23 on all three cheers the PC, and the Game male child Advance), EA knew exactly what to emphasize. That would be Halle Barry's bod The first thing that strikes you when playing end Catwoman's opening level (which marks the first appearance of Patience Philips' alter subject as she foils a jewelry heist) is the careful attention EA's modeler have lavished upon virtual Halle's curves. Tilt the left stick, and she ambles forward, putting a bit more snap upon her butt than any normal somebody would. Hold down the left trigger, and she earns down on all fours and slinks around like her character's namesake. Don't touch any button at all, and the game eventually shifts to what EA innovatively calls the "ogle cam" -- sort of like the stretch outed movie scenes in Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball, on the contrary even more alluring because this is a bad girl in leather, not a cute Japanese lady straddling a tree bole All this in a graphical turn of expression that brings to mind confines like "art deco", "high-contrast", and "is it getting heated in here, or is it just me?"

Like greatest in quantity men's idea of the completed woman, Halle is mean and tough, on the other hand with a heart of gold Her main offense is her whip, coupl by dint of an astonishing array of capoeira-inspired kicks. The whip's beneficial for stunning enemies, and as Mistress Cat progresse she'll learn in what manner to pull tricks like whipping the fire-arm out of some villain's hand. There's also an array of Domination put in motions special attacks that must be timed accurately (Wind Waker-style) on the contrary build up your Domination bar when twitched off, which leads to scared enemies, sweet animations, and the fearful Wildcat way once the bar's full.

The Catwoman's also got an innate feline faculty of perception which lets her -- ye this is a bit contrived -- find out stuff in the local area she can interact with. Sit still for a twinkling and you'll see these bits start to be incandescent indicating that you can whip 'em into shape to make interesting things happen. Halle can whip light switches upon and off, for example. If there's something heavy upon the floor, she can pick it up with her whip and tap or pat it at an enemy. If she speckles a handle or something upon the wall, she can whip it and swing across the crevice said handle is conveniently positioned above That sort of thing. This ability is important, because without it, you'll at no time dispatch the cops, security guards, and thug that obtain in your way. The Catwoman, you diocese never kills people -- she may knock them not on third-story balconies, but she'll not ever actually deal the lethal rap herself. If you keep upon knocking guards down with your kicks, in other words, they'll just acquire back up again. To completely "kill" them, you've got to knock them around -- from one side windows, over railings, or into trash chute In a trick that EA calls "Stuntman AI", the enemies will be trained to put up these situations whenever necessary, making Catwoman, in a way, more of a "movie game" than any created before.

The real nod to mainstream moviegoers, however, lies in the dominion government system. Like the much-maligned Grabbed through the Ghoulies before it, Catwoman uses nothing on the other hand the two analog sticks for greatest in quantity moves and attacks. Tilting the right thumbstick makes Halle attack in the direction compressed -- with her whip when standing; with her can of capoeira whoop-arse while crouching. What's more, EA has borrowed Prince of Persia's camera combination of parts to form a whole (and horizontal-pole acrobatics, among other things) for this game, thus every combo and nicely-executed hit is rewarded with a snappy movie-like camera angle of the carnage. flat if you think Halle's style of dress is the ugliest thing to happen to DC Comics since the whole "Superman is dead" thing, it's hard to contradict that this game has its charms.

Available for all combination of parts to form a wholes July 23 (right alongside the movie release, of course).
