John Woo Sets Up Metroid Movie Deal

Hong Kong action icon John solicit in love has optioned the Metroid franchise for a film adaptation, the Hollywood Reporter reports today.

Woo plans to exhibit the movie, although he may or may not direct at this point. It's tentatively planned for release before 2006 "Everyone involved is looking at this as a big-budget picture," said co-producer Brad Foxhoven "We diocese a tremendous opportunity to launch a film franchise with Nintendo as a partner."

The movie is to focus upon the origin of armored heroine Samus Aran, and the beginnings of her rupture with the Metroid aliens and their commanding Mother Brain. "We have to assume the mainstream audience is unfamiliar with the property" Foxhoven explained. "As for the quiet of the film, we will stay real to the game and have Samus battling the Metroids and Mother Brain in a fight for direction of the galaxy."

Woo is the next to the first producer to have a pass at a Metroid movie. agriculturists Warren Zide and Craig Perry picked up the rights in early 2003 after the succes of Metroid Prime, on the other hand never got the project not upon the ground.

Tiger Hill Entertainment, Woo's production company, has three original videogame general [i]or[/i] abstract notions in development in addition to its film shoot forwards as well as a publishing deal with Sega. Gaming Industry novels reports that its plan is to announce sum of two units titles around E3, one published by means of Sega and one with another publisher. Foxhoven said Tiger Hill awaits to release its first game by means of the end of next year.
