Square-Enix today announced its latest plans for the Final Fantasy series. Surprisingly, it has decided to defer production on Final Fantasy XII in favor of releasing still another FFX spinoff, apparently to make secure more guaranteed Final Fantasy sales within the fiscal year.

The fresh installment, entitled Final Fantasy XXL appear to bes to be aimed primarily at the American market, and appears to be a reaction to fan make notess on Final Fantasy X-2. After receiving a great quantity [i]or[/i] amount of criticism for having relied upon scantily clad female protagonists in X-2 director Yoshinori Kitase has tend hitherward up with an entirely alternate approach for XXL "We always typically make experiment of to make our quests larger with each fresh installment in the Final Fantasy series," said Kitase. "This time we decided to focus upon the characters."

That's right. Final Fantasy XXL takes place three years after X-2 and features a decidedly, erm larger cast of characters. Yuna, Paine, and Rikku are now married and bon bon eating housewives. Spira is unexpectedly attacked by an unknown force from the past, and the trio is called into action one time again.

Look forward to Final Fantasy XXL impressions from E3 in May, and for the game to release later this year.
