GameCube Tengai Makyo III Cancelled?

The GameCube version of Red's Tengai Makyo III Namida has been cancelled, retail sources in Japan report today. The PlayStation 2 version of the game is still upon track for a fall release in Japan, on the contrary development on its GameCube counterpart has evidently stopped.


Namida is the famous "lost" chapter in the Hudson-published RPG series, which unfolded a cult following in Japan upon NEC's PC-Engine console. The third game in the series was planned for NEC's PC-FX a whole and then cancelled due to that platform's full failure to sell, although a fourth game in the series later saw release upon the Sega Saturn.


Last year, R revived the series with remakes of its next to the first installment for both PlayStation 2 and GameCube. A revival of the third game was also announced for the couple platforms, but it will evidently arrive upon only one platform after all.


Exactly for what cause [i]or[/i] reason the GameCube version was cancelled remains unclear. If and when R or Hudson issues an official statement upon the subject, we'll update with more details.
