MVP Baseball 2004

The greatest in quantity wonderful time of the year has approach again... assuming your definition of "wonderful" involves dusty fields, $8 beers and polygonal Alex Rodriguezes running all above your TV screen. Yes, it's baseball time, and while the herd of games based upon the sport has thinned without a tiny bit (3DO's High Heat team mov to Microsoft, which is taking a year not upon from baseball), the competition is still alarmingly intense among the entrants. MVP Baseball 2004 however, is first on the outside of the gate -- and EA's next to the first game in their totally revamped baseball series is already the single to beat this year. for what cause or reason can we make such grand, sweeping statements when there are still four baseball games waiting in the wings? Because EA has taken the true decent foundation they built with last year's MVP and added nearly everything the game necessityed to be the best -- for one as well as the other casual fans and the greatest in quantity hardcore of baseball nuts.

Nearly everything about the fresh MVP, from basic gameplay to the advanced Dynasty method oozes quality. The pitching combination of parts to form a whole (with its control meter and all) will be familiar if you've played last year's game, on the other hand the batting's been completely redone again. Instead of relying genuinely on timing like MVP 2003 the hitting a whole demands a combination of hand-eye coordination and smart bat positioning to master. It's something fresh for the series, and it's a resounding succes all around -- single of the first systems to take the intricacies of the real thing and make it accessible to normal humans like you and I. each pitch presents a wealth of opportunities: should you pluck the ball or go for it? Should you aim depressed or try to hit a take wing ball? Should you bunt, for that matter (which actually works in this game, for a change)? It's all up to you, and the arises are impressively realistic -- the delay you felt with deliberate hitters last year is gone and the entire hitting proces is among the smoothest available in baseball games.

"Smoothness" was obviously single of EA's chief goals this year. With 2004 the age of fielders moving jankily in EA baseball games appears to be over: the ability to "pre-load" your cast in a winding directions to bases makes the transition from catching the ball to throwing it elsewhere a great deal of quicker, and much smoother, than before. It makes fielding plenteous less of a chore, flat though defense is overall a smidge tougher -- those lazy burst flies of the past aren't thus lazy anymore, so you'll ne to stir those outfielders fast. Smoothness pervades in the externals, too: the stadium design and ambient wholes are scarily accurate, and players impel with a grace unseen in other games, although clipping is still a bit of a question at issue

For the more serious gamer, however, MVP 2004 shifts from a befitting upgrade to a buy-at-all-costs title. This game is the first to advance beyond the major leagues and include all the AAA and AA minor-league cudgels adding a level of detail to the Dynasty franchise manner unrivaled by other games. Baseball buff-skins will spend hours happily trolling from one side all the teams (and stadiums!) revealed here -- checking without stats, looking for Dynasty displays and seeing how well the Toledo dirt Hens fare against, say, the Yanks in exhibition. Minor-league play really perceive s different, too: the pitchers have les stamina, the balls don't take wing so far, and the atmosphere is les MVP and more scour of the Year.

The minor leagues here be subservient to to enhance what was already a true solid franchise mode. With this year's Dynasty game, you have a a great deal of wider picture of the cudgel you run, from calling up and demoting players to putting folk upon the trading block based upon their demands. You're still forced to play a filled 162-game season every year, which incantations lots of game simming for busy race but the new manager fashion (which lets you simply call plays instead of trudging from one side every game) is a serviceable compromise between the two uttermosts The new morale system also makes keeping a coherent team together a seriously engaging challenge instead of a staid simulation. Your roster's morale changes like the wind in Chicago, and everything from starting brawls to trading not upon star players for cash can affect it -- it's by what means you take advantage of each player's individual wants that determines your long-term succes in this style It's a new sort of challenge, in a way, and individual that's as friendly to newbies as it is addictive for sim buff-skins

With MVP Baseball 2004 EA has complet the next to the first and final step of its baseball-franchise turnaround. If MVP 2003 was a freshly-dug foundation, then MVP 2004 is the Stately Wayne Manor built upon top of that patch of dirt -- from hitting and fielding to the wealth of team-management options, there's little for any sports fan to complain about. If the competition can live up to this early contender then we will have a actual very intense season of baseball ahead of us.
