PSX Coming Westward This Year

Sony's PSX multipurpose entertainment a whole will see release in Europe within the year, gamesindustry.biz reports today.


The combination PS2 and TV recorder -- which also plays digital music and consume s video to DVD -- will make its first public appearance in Europe at the CEBIT trade present to view in Germany, with an official announcement of more release details (including pricing and a specific date) awaited from Sony before or during the display which starts March 18.


In a curious turn round however, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe will reportedly handle the sales and marketing of the device. In Japan, where the PSX saw release last December, those duties were handled through Sony's larger electronics division, rather than its games division, Sony Computer Entertainment.


Corporate shuffling aside, European gadget fiends can gaze forward to seeing many functions combined into single with the PSX. Since the European version will presumably incorporate novel upgrades to the Japanese case when it launches, it will play PS2 games (including online games), record TV programs, consume said programs to DVD, play back MP3 and other digital music, and display digital pictures in multiple formats.




A North American release for the a whole may be expected to coincide roughly with its European release, on the contrary neither Sony nor Sony Computer Entertainment Amerca has said anything specific upon the subject. We'll hold fast an eye out for more freshs leading into E3.
