Datel Announces PS2 Chat Client

In an unorthodox use of the PlayStation 2's newfound online capability, European peripheral manufacturer Datel (makers of the famous Action Replay cheat device) today announced a novel online chat and communication client for the PS2 The "MAXim" software combines features of an instant messaging a whole and online message boards, letting users communicate directly or indirectly with their broadband-equipped PS2


MAXim allows users create an individual online persona (with the usual customization features like nicknames, personal profiles, and "avatar" images) and communicate with other users online. sum of two units users can communicate person-to-person, or participate with many other users in a wide selection of moderated discussion forums. To save the usual hassle involved in typing with a sway pad, the software supports any USB keyboard, whether made by means of Datel or another manufacturer.


Currently the MAXim software is alone available in PAL territories -- it's upon its way out in the UK February 25 for 1499 beats (about $22).




[Editor's note: Datel informs us that the MAXim is in fact available in North America as well, for the comparable price of $1999 or $2499 with a Powerboard keyboard.]


A Network Adaptor and broadband Internet access are required, for a like reason we'll see if that class of PS2 users (who likely already have access to existing online discussion fora) spring [i]or[/i] leap on one leg [i]or[/i] foots on board.
