Square Enix Abandons Chrono Break Trademark

Trademark registration from games publishers usually present a pointer towards what a company might have planned for the futurity A recent change to a Square Enix trademark appear to bes to clear up one thing the publisher doesn't have planned, however. Several looker-ons recently noted that the trademark for the title "Chrono Break," held through Square for a little above two years, was abandoned in November of last year.

Square Electronic Arts registered the Chrono Break trademark in December of 2001 at the same time as the better-known title Unlimited SaGa. The natural assumption at the time was that Square was working upon sequels in its Chrono and SaGa RPG series. Unlimited SaGa became a game a year later, however, while Chrono Break did not.

Fans of the series held without hope for another sequel, on the contrary it may not have at any time been a possibility. Sources inside Square Enix claim that work upon a third Chrono RPG allow alone one bearing the particular Chrono Break name, has not ever been seriously undertaken.
