MVP Baseball 2004

With MVP Baseball 2004 EA Sports has a true obvious mission in mind: it wants to evince once and for all, that it can play a better circular of stickball than Acclaim, ESPN Midway, and any other challengers to the baseball diadem So how's it plan to do this? Judging through a new build of the game brought above by producer Brent Nielsen, a mixture of gameplay polish and a variety of down-reaching expansions to Dynasty Mode.

To say that the Dynasty style -- EA's term for the manner that gives you control of an entire baseball organization -- has been expanded for 2004 would be something of an understatement. As before, you're the general manager of a major league team, and you must suited a number of set goals and guide your team to victory. These goals vary depending upon the team you choose -- for the Tigers, your initial mission might be to secure above .500, while the Yankees will await you to win 100 games and take the World Series twice in three years.
There are three major additions to Dynasty fashion this year: team chemistry, manager fashion and minor leagues. Explaining single system without explaining the others at one time is difficult, so let's test to go through this as methodically as possible.

First not on minor leagues. Over 60 novel farm teams are available in MVP 2004 encompassing each league in the AA and AAA classes. This includes real teams and a certain number of real players -- if a minor-leaguer's done any time in the majors, then he's a member of the MLB Players' Association and therefore in this game. All of these teams are playable, and in Dynasty way your AAA and AA farm teams play an important character in building a good major-league franchise -- you're at liberty to call up and throw down players at will, and you'll receive reports from your farm staff upon how your hot prospects are faring down below.

The farm combination of parts to form a whole will play an important part in managing the chemistry of your team, which is affected through a variety of issues. each player in your organization has his possess outlook on his current situation -- he can be real happy, or very angry -- and satisfied teams play better baseball than dysfunctional singles If you demote someone to the minors, or bench him after promising him a regular character in his contract, or bring him up on the trading stop his future performance might advance down. (It could go up though: if you set a player up for trade, he may be glad you're trying to propel him and improve his performance upon the field.) Bringing a minor-leaguer to the majors will boost his morale, of course, as well as revising contracts and winning a series of gripe games against a rival.

Helping you acquire through a season in Dynasty way is a variety of spe aids, including the brand-new manager way One common complaint with Dynasty method according to Nielsen, is that if you're simulating a series of games, it's hard to really perceive in control of your team's destiny. That's where the manager's game approachs in: it gives you a modicum of superintendence and still wraps up a thorough match in short order. This manner looks a fair bit like the play-by-play reports upon MLB.com, if you're familiar with that: you're shown a baseball diamond, and textual commentary upon the game appears at the bottom. As manager, you're given a place of batting and pitching options at all times -- calling for residence runs or steals and setting up hit-and-runs upon offense, or pitching around hitters or dealing intentional walks upon defense. This extra freedom gives you a great deal more direction over your team's destiny, on the contrary it also wraps up the game within five minutes -- a great benefaction for Dynasty Mode freaks without a great deal of time on their hands. What's more, you can simulate the quiescence of the game or play it on the outside yourself at any time during the match, which gives you a chance to take direction if matters are getting without of hand.

MVP Baseball 2004 is just about ready to penetrate its formal beta-testing period, and already it gazes like a winner from a visual standpoint -- the players are well-detailed, there's a bulky variety of personalized batting/pitching stances, and the era of balls warping into fielders' glove appears to be well and with truth over. One cool addition we saw was a put of eight classic stadiums that are unlockable via Dynasty way including Tiger Stadium and the mammoth Polo sods (483 feet out to center) Playing upon these fields with the classic teams -- watching Mike Schmidt flick his bat before swinging and Walter Johnson doing that windmill thing with his arm before throwing -- are confident to send hardcore baseball nut into fits of nostalgia.

More coverage, including the first hands-on proof drive, will be coming shortly.
