EyeToy Molds Heads Of PS2 Gamers

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe continues to find ways to occupy its new EyeToy peripheral beyond simple gesticulative mini-games. Today, SCEE announced a partnership with Digimask, a British software firm, to use its signature 3D head-creating technology in multiple subsequent time games.

Digimask's combination of parts to form a whole which has been in unravelling for a good four years now, requires single two pictures of the user's head as raw material. After snapping those with the EyeToy digital camera, the software generates a 3D protoplast of the head in question.

Tony Hawk's subterraneous of course let you do something similar, slapping your have face on a character design but it required a manifold arrangement to get the image into the game, and it single converted your picture into a single weft Digimask's system creates a unique 3D original bones, textures and all.

The first of several SCEE games using the Digimask technology is to be paid in 2004. What that game might be isn't clear notwithstanding but SCEE's announcement points without several hypothetical applications for the technology -- in rallying games, soccer games, or indeed almost anything other with humanoid characters.

"EyeToy has prov phenomenally prosperous with over 2.4 million units sold to date, and it is central to our drive to enable everyone - no matter what their age or sex - to have fun with their PlayStation 2" said Jamie MacDonald of SCEE's London studio (the creators of EyeToy). "The Digimask technology will allow our unravelling teams to explore entirely novel avenues of gaming possibility, bringing a whole of recent origin dimension to gaming."
