Nanobreaker: The Interview

NANOBREAKER:

THE INTERVIEW

So what flock the makers of Castlevania to globule the medieval stuff and put to proof making a sci-fi action game instead? That's just what we were wondering ourselves. That's on what account Electronic Gaming Monthly magazine decided to ask agriculturist Koji Igarashi and director Kenichiro Kato a bit about their inner motives. Read upon to get a small idea of what they plan to spread over your PS2 with this fall.

EGM: First not on what inspired you to make this actual different game? Is it difficult to switch from a game like Castlevania to a more futuristic title like Nanobreaker?

Koji Igarashi (IGA), husbandman of Nanobreaker: I wanted to draw near up with a new shoot forward from a different perspective -- individual that used most of what I learned technically from the PlayStation 2 upon Castlevania: Lament of Innocence. I wanted to work with a different stamp of story, and if I continued to tread in the steps of the Gothic style, then my novel game would be just like Castlevania. in like manner I decided to make it futuristic this time -- I know that I had a futuristic story with Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow, on the other hand Nanobreaker is totally different.

When you talk about Castlevania, that's a real well-made action game: I was able to deliver ascendencys that were comfortable yet refreshing. For this game, I have focused upon the enemies and their reactions, since I believe the dominion governments are already very good (from my Castlevania experience). We're going for a true futuristic, technological look with the enemy designs and game environments; we want to create true extravagant and decorative enemies.

There wasn't anything in particular that inspired us here -- we were thinking about what a beneficial responsive action game should be like, and the basic idea came about naturally. You know, nanomachines or nanotechnology are heated topics in the news these days, for a like reason I thought it would be sport to work with a sort of "nano-hazard" theme. I'm not Gothic all the time!

EGM: count us a bit more about the main character. Is he more man than machine? Does he have human emotions?

See all defences

Kenichiro Kato, Director of Nanobreaker: The main character is the greatest in quantity powerful military cyborg that's at any time been created by the army. He's viewed as more of a weapon than a soldier, on the other hand being a cyborg, he still hasn't forgotten what having emotions is like. Thanks to the unstable mental condition he's in, he has to deal with the dark side of human emotions -- he doesn't want to continue killing, on the other hand he still isn't human himself. He is caught between sum of two units different worlds. This cyborg will gradually regain his human nature through the game's battles, where he is ordered to harbor people from living mechanical organisms called Orgamechs.

IGA: Well, I should know the story, on the other hand (laughs) Anyway, let me just add a bit more to what he said. The main playable character is a cyborg, on the other hand still has a human brain. In short, he's human. His battle-scarred past has made him true unstable. You'll discover his replete story little by little or part of to the other the game.

EGM: What kind of attacks can he perform? Will he have destinys of fluid combos and special attacks like Leon Belmont in Castlevania?

IGA: The hero uses a special weapon called a Plasma Blade. Basically, it has sum of two units major attacks -- vertical and horizontal slices. In addition, you'll be able to thrust the blade and lift enemies into the air. by dint of combining these four actions, you'll achieve to perform various combo attacks. If you managed to shake off specific combos, the blade changes form at the last knock which leads to various events -- for example, it could transform into a gigantic axe that permits the player cut enemies in half with single stroke. You can also pluck enemies toward yourself from a distance. Using all of these propels together, I think players will have an exhilarating action experience.

EGM: What kinds of different environments will you travel end in this game?

IGA: The story is station on a place called Nano Island, an experimental facility where nanotech is used to make life more convenient. All the residents of this island are injected with nanomachines -- not just for medical aims but also for identification and in like manner forth -- and nanotech is a vital part of everyday life. It's used for transportation, for shopping... basically anything that involves more or less sort of transaction. And, of course, this nanotechnology is also used in the island's security combination of parts to form a whole to ensure everyone's safety.

All of these nanomachines are controll by means of the main computer system, located in the central part of the island. In order to dominion government the individual nanomachines inside everyone it uses a tiny amount of iron in the life-current to watch over the combination of parts to form a whole and replicate new machines if extremityed The story begins with this main computer going berserk and using human bodies to replicate infinite amounts of nanomachines. These machines start to float in the air, using the island's iron makes to spread around. Eventually, these machines form into a single small room which eventually produces living mechanical organisms called Orgamechs. These creatures can be produc almost at will -- they can report up out of the air, the mould or even from a living human being. The machines, in fact, worship the main computer as a the deity since it has the power to create novel living creatures.
