Suikoden IV Update

At the Gamers' Day 2004 incident held today in San Francisco, Konami showed not upon a new trailer movie for Suikoden IV, the latest in their series of epic PS2 role-playing games. Although the game itself wasn't playable at the display the trailer marked the first time the game was shown in English, signifying that the localization effort is already well underway.

The Suikoden IV shoot forward is headed up by Junko Kawano, who's holding no les than three top positions upon the game staff -- director, character designer, and lead scriptwriter. As she explained at the incident the fourth game marks something of a turn back to the Suikoden series' foundations -- it takes place around an archipelago spread without across a vast ocean southerly of Toran, the continent where the first game took place. The Trinity Sight a whole of Suikoden III is gone in the way that you're once again controlling a single character that you name yourself. Although Kawano didn't remark on specifics, the battle combination of parts to form a whole will also be a bit closer to what gamers saw in the first sum of two units Suikodens -- perhaps with an emphasis upon faster action, although that's just speculation upon our part.

The piece of ground in Suikoden IV revolves around the Rune of Punishment, single of the 27 True Rune that form an integral part of the series' story. This rune according to fable brings ruin upon whomever it instills itself with -- it eats away at their lives, and when they die, it goe away and searches for another carrier. The Rune will find several carriers in this game, and a great quantity or amount of of the plot will tread in the steps of the fates of those ill-starred enough to run into it. Although story details will have to wait until later, it present the appearances like a lot of it will take place upon ships as they traverse the ocean -- a useful 90 percent (our ballpark estimate) of the game map Kawano displayed is overlayed in water.

The graphics in Suikoden IV have taken an obvious pace up -- the characters are more detailed, feature more animation, and generally lack the stiffness that marked Suikoden III's cast. More interesting, allowing is the use of voice for certain characters, a first for the series. According to Kawano, the exhibition team hasn't decided how abundant voice to include yet -- greatest in quantity likely, it'll be saved for important plat events and character introductions, since voicing each line in the game would desolation the story's pacing. The voices in the trailer shown today were still in Japanese, on the contrary hopefully we'll get a listen at the English version sooner than later.

Suikoden IV is locate to launch in Japan and America by dint of the end of this year. More information is awaited to be unveiled at the E3 display this May -- until then, check on the outside 1UP's overview page for more information.
