Hudson's Adventure Island
With this Adventure Island remake coming just after the remake of Bonk's Adventure, it's easy to diocese similarities between the two games. Beyond the universal of them being side-scrolling platformers, the pair have power-ups and things to bring together as well as tan, polygonal characters upon top of redone 2D backgrounds. Adventure Island's backgrounds attempt a more standard direct the eye however, with lots of plain hills, tree and prison s as opposed to Bonk's playful, cartoony turn of expression If the new Bonk is a transcript of Yoshi's Story, then the fresh Adventure Island is a transcript of Donkey Kong Country. From the boulder rolling downhill to the drowning animation when you fall into water, there are a scarcely any nice details, but based upon our first couple hours of play, it doesn't look like the best looking game on the outside there. The gameplay is moderately beautiful much the same as in the original Adventure Island, with you in rule of a caveman who can cast in a winding direction weapons like axes, boomerangs, spears, and fireballs, as well as ride a skateboard or part of to the other certain areas. You have to eat apportionments of food as you move since your health slowly globules as you play and you will fail if you don't continually replenish yourself. Your health meter doesn't help a great deal of with enemies, though -- if you thump into a snake or another creature, it's a one-hit death. One issue we have with the masterys is that you use the same button to whirl your weapons and to race (if you hold it down). This was a fine setup upon the NES version since there were sole two buttons to use upon the controller, but with the GameCube controller these actions could have been split into sum of two units buttons to make it easier to stir around and throw weapons at the same time. It's a minor quibble, on the contrary it would have been a nice bonus option. Still, if you're a one who sucks for 2D platformers, it's a sport little game. And like Bonk it's a packet title, so for those with foolish memories of Master Higgins (or if you played the Japanese version, Master Takahashi), check it out Copyright ?© 2003 Ziff Davis Media Inc.
