PSX Pricing, Specs Announced

Sony today announced pricing and protoplast details for its PSX entertainment a whole in conjunction with the device's public first appearance at the CEATEC electronics exhibition in Japan. The PSX which combines a PlayStation 2 with a broadband network connection and digital video recording capabilities, will advance in two models, both packing a stiff price tag along with their impressive features.

The basic mould the DESR-5000, will contain a 160-gigabyte hard drive capable of recording up to 204 hours of video, and will be priced at 79800 yen (about $719) in Japan. Its older brother, the DESR-7000 will have a 250-gigabyte hard drive that can store as plenteous as 325 hours of video, and will be priced at 99800 yen (about $899) Sony hasn't announced pricing or release plans for other parts of the world as nevertheless

The PSX can record video at six different horizontals of quality, with a corresponding increase or decrease in the amount of video it can record at a given quality horizontal The 160-gigabyte model can record 33 hours at the highest quality horizontal or 67 hours at the default horizontal up to the aforementioned maximum.

Both a whole s will have the same capabilities aside from their hard drive spec -- they will play PlayStation 2 games and DVD movies (including PlayStation BB-compatible titles like Final Fantasy XI, output progressive scan video, record TV programs, reduce to ashes DVDs at up to 24x spe and download contented via its broadband connection. They also have the same Memory Stick and USB 11 ports for connecting removable data storage and peripherals.

The PSX will have its have a title to unique graphical user interface, which users can update via its Internet connection if Sony elects to refine the system's software. Also, although the system currently supports solitary the DVD-R and DVD-RW standards, Sony is considering releasing support for the DVD+RW standard via a downloadable patch after the system's release, as well as other upgrades to its functionality.

One lock opener detail remains absent from Sony's announcement -- the release date. The PSX's planned release is still scheduled for "within the extreme point of the year," though Sony promises a more precise date sometime shortly
