Editorial

Although it has single been 9 months since I last wrote an editorial for this Journal, it perceive s like a lifetime has passed. As many of you know, I resum editorship of the Journal in February. During the proces of putting this issue together, I experienced feelings of familiarity and normalcy coupl with feelings of unfamiliarity and wondering what in the world is 'normal?' I have learned many exercise s as a result of life post-Katrina. single of the biggest things I have learned is in what manner generous people are...and the members of the Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Section have helped teach me that exercise Consequently, there are many family I need to thank as come of their kindness, caring, and pertain to

Our Section President, Dianne Jewell, was incredibly supportive and relate toed about me personally. Professionally, she trusted all of the decisions I made concerning the Journal in the early days after Katrina and made assured that the word got without about my displacement and temporary step-down as Editor of the Journal.

I can't thank Sandy Cassady enough for stepping in as Interim Editor. In the days immediately following Katrina with the time of risings breaking and the city becoming inundated with water, I had no ball of thread when or even if we could make progress back home. I think our emails passed in cyberspace the same day; with mine asking if she could please take above as Editor and hers offering to take above I passed on some scanty information regarding manuscripts that were in review and managed to scrounge a certain number of email addresses for her, and I not at any time worried about the Journal after that because I knew it was in capable hands. Sandy continues to provide support to me and I am extremely grateful.

I'd also like to thank the Associate Editors, authors, reviewers, and anyone other who helped Sandy during this time. I know that it made her piece of work easier and it made me perceive better knowing that she was receiving dooms of help.

Sharon Klinski, the Managing Editor, willingly took above more responsibilities concerning the technical aspects of the Journal. And like Sandy, I completely trusted Sharon's capabilities and decisions in these areas.

And finally, I would like to thank all of the members who sent me emails of encouragement and support above the last 9 months. There are simply too many tribe to list all of their names and I don't want to leave anyone without Your words truly helped me during a dark period and I am eternally grateful for your kindness.

So we've got a great issue for you. Dr Dianne Jewell has written an article titled, The character of Fitness in Physical Therapy Patient Management: Applications Across the Continuum of Care' that provides a wealth of information regarding the importance of considering fitness and health issues in patients that are not considered to be 'cardiovascular and pulmonary' patients. Her paper makes a sinewy point that we need to make these considerations in all of our patients, irrespective of their diagnoses.

Several presenter at CSM 2006 graciously provided summaries of their presentations and in like manner these are provided in this issue as well. I think that you will diocese that there were some admirable presentations at CSM, and I faith that the information provided in these summaries will be helpful for those who may not have been able to attend the meeting.

The Linda Crane discourse by Martha Hinman, PT, EdD is also included in this issue. Dr Hinman delivered an extraordinary prelection on the concept of 'Inspiration' that with equal reason eloquently described what inspiration is, where we obtain it, and by what mode it affects what we do as physical therapists. Please take the time to read this prelection

Finally, Dr. Tanya LaPier and Mr Brian Wilson wrote the Research Corner upon the Heart Surgery Symptom Inventory. This is continuing with the last several issues of highlighting an assessment tool used in treating patients with cardiovascular and pulmonary diagnoses.

By the time you receive this issue of the Journal, I should be back in my office at LSU Health Sciences Center in like manner the work contact information will be valid again. However, for manuscript submission, I would still proffer electronic submission as this greatly make hastes up the review process.

Have a great summer!
