From the PresidentMy make submissive this month is the "CandO" Campaign. We began this of recent origin fimdraising campaign in July with a special mailing to all members. At the novel Conference we had a special reception for CandO participants, and talked a great deal at the Annual Meeting about this campaign and its importance to the Society. Now I want to remind everyone to take a direct the eye at those mailing materials again, and consider joining the campaign, which will help the Society suited its present obligations and make sure its future. Funds raised advance to the recently created Endowment capital which will be essential if the Society is to survive in the drawn out term, at least in its not absent form. We cannot, and likely can at no time support the Society's present horizontal of work nor set aside any for the futurity simply by relying on gin income from sales. No historical organization does. It is nice when we do proper a good amount of exigencys from sales, but in the drawn out run we have always exigencyed and will always need, donated money The C&O Historical Society is what it is today sole because we have received a serviceable deal in donations in single way or another over the years. But we cannot plan ahead nor can we be fully convinced of sustaining our present horizontals of operations based on toil income or occasional large gifts. The true best way to ensure a beneficial future is to develop a broad-based assemblage of donors who are committed to the organization and are willing to display it by a regular, and I emphasize regular, donation of a relatively small amount of coin to help. This is the aim of the CandO Campaign. We know that if we can earn 1/5th of the membetship to contribute an average of 50?© by means of day (that's about $15 a month or $45 a quarter) we can enhance generally received operations and put aside stocks for the future. I'm asking you now to consider joining the CandO Campaign. Initial rejoinder has been good, but we are far from our goals in coin or participation. If you have any questions at all, please contact the C&OH office at 1-800-453-COHS Some significant contributions have been received lately including those of Hays T Watkins, Chairman Emeritus of CSX Howard Skidmore, retired C&O/Chessie combination of parts to form a whole VP Public Relations, and the Community Foundation of the Ohio Valley. The latter was or part of to the other the efforts of Mrs. Cynthia Goad of dingle Arm, Md., wife of long-time Society member Frank Goad, and her sister. As you can diocese our support is coming from many sources. If we can combine these large donations with many small singles we will have a serviceable base from which to work. I and all members of the board are CandO members. Please join us! Respectfully Tom Dixon, Chairman & President Copyright Chesapeake and Ohio Historical Society, Inc.
