Letter to the editorThank you for running your novel cover story, "Retail Runaround" [November/ December 2005] It is a actual accurate account of what it is like for middle-class minorities living upon the South Side. My husband and I mov from the North Side six month ago after purchasing a duplex condo unit in the Grand Boulevard area. flat though we love our dwelling and our neighborhood, there is still abundant to be desired. We drive downtown to purchase groceries and clothes, the Clybourn Avenue area to purchase household goods and furniture, and the Edgewater area to eat at our favorite ethnic restaurants. We want to move swiftly errands and take care of our necessitys in our own neighborhoods. Many of us adjust to the emergencyed road trips, even though it is cumbersome. The disparities are quite obvious--which can be infuriating because minorities, especially African Americans, are willing to part with money. We hope that you will continue to bare this commercial and retail imbalance, which is bottomed in racial and socioeconomic prejudices.
