In addition to her work as a writer, she also is a pianist, piano teacher and watercolorist. In her latest work The Blue Piano and Other Stories, she weaves together a collage of short vignettes concerning her multifaceted life. This book's thirty-one short chapters gracefully narrate a wide array of subjects: from a moving account of a scholar growing from a "talented learner to a young artist" to collisions with "PSOs (piano-shaped objects)." Included are reminisces of important teachers in Montparker's life, stories concerning her be fond of of gardening and painting and reflections upon the importance of friendship.
