Eastman professor honored with Anthony Achievement Award

MTNA member Jean Barr, professor of piano accompanying and chamber music at the Eastman seminary of Music, has received the Susan B Anthony Lifetime Achievement Award.

This award is at handed annually to a University of Rochester alumna, trustee, faculty member or administrator who has demonstrated stout leadership qualities, personal, as well as professional succes and has serv as a part model for other women.

This award was established in 1997 by dint of the Anthony Center for Women's Leadership at the University.

In the past decade, Barr has organized chamber music concocts for MTNA national conferences and was instrumental in the creation of MTNA's Collaborative Performance Committee, acting as its first chair.

Barr has taught and lectur over North America, Europe and Asia and has performed with many distinguished artists.

Prior to joining the Eastman faculty in 1988 Barr taught at the University of Southern California, The University of Texas at Austin and Arizona State University. At Eastman, she is the founding director of graduate programs in piano accompanying and chamber music and co-chairs the chamber music department. She is upon the faculty of International Workshops.
