2004-2005 MTNA Student Competitions

The MTNA pupil Competitions consist of three levels: State Competition, Division Competition and National Finals.

PERFORMANCE COMPETITIONS

The intent of the performance competitions sponsored by the agency of Music Teachers National Association is to encourage exceptionally talented young artists in the pursuit of musical transcendence and to recognize outstanding achievement in the music teaching profession.

COMPOSITION COMPETITIONS

The intent of the composition competition sponsored by means of Music Teachers National Association is to encourage creativity and self-expression in scholar musicians through the art of composing and to recognize their achievements, us well as the significant work of their teachers.

General Guidelines for the 2004-2005 MTNA pupil Competitions

Application deadline for all states is September 14 2004 All mailed applications must be postmarked upon or before that date. All online and faxed applications must be received by dint of 12:00 MIDNIGHT on September 14 2004

Applications are available online at www.mtna.org or by means of calling (888) 512-5278 prior to September 1 to prayer a hard copy of the application.

Performance Competitions

Junior Performance

* Age: 11-14 as of January 1 2005

* Competitions: Brass, Percussion, Piano, String and Woodwind

* access Fee: $70

Senior Performance

* Age: 15-18 as of January 1 2005

* Competitions: Brass, Percussion, Piano, String, Voice and Woodwind

* access Fee: $100

Young Artist Performance

* Age: 19-26 as of January 1 2005

* Competitions: Brass, Guitar, Organ, Percussion, Piano, String, Voice and Woodwind

* entrance Fee: $100

Chamber Music Performance

* Age: Average age of the whole members must be 18-26 as of January 1 2005

* general impression size: 3-6 players

* [i]tout ensemble[/i] instrumentation: any combination of brass, guitar, piano, string and wind instruments. total effects with piano only are not permitted.

* ingress Fee: $100

* The National Finals of the competitions are scheduled for April 2-6 2005 in Seattle, Washington. For a full list of State and Division Competition dates and locations, confer the June/July 2004 issue of American Music Teacher or the MTNA website at www.mtna.org.

MTNA Member Teachers

* common membership dues for MTNA must be paid upon or before September 14, 2004 Teachers may go into students either (1) in the state where the learner has permanent residence or (2) in the state where the instruction takes place. MTNA members are not required to be members of the state in which the pupil is entered.

* An MTNA collegiate member must pay active membership oweds to enter students in the competitions.

Nonmember Teachers

* Nonmembers have the option of becoming a member of MTNA or paying a Teacher entrance Fee of $150. This remuneration will allow the teacher to go into one or more students into the various MTNA competitions, provided all other eligibility requirements are met Nonmembers may pierce students either (1) in the state where the learner has permanent residence or (2) in the state where the instruction takes place. Nonmember pay s must be paid on or before September 14 2004

Entrant Information

* A pupil may enter the competitions in alone one state.

* Competition financial obligations are the responsibility of the entrant.

* All entrance fees are nonrefundable.

* State and division winners/representatives are obligated to advance to the nearest level of the competition.

* If there is single one entrant in a State-level category, there will be NO State Competition. The entrant will be named the State Representative and will advance directly to the Division Competition.

* If there is alone one entrant in a Division-level category, there will be NO Division Competition. The entrant will be named the Division Representative and will advance directly to the National Finals.

* If there are seven (7) or fewer entrants nationwide in a category at the state horizontal those entrants will advance directly to the National Finals.
