Southwest DivisionFor the first time in 127 years, this year the Southwest Division held the division competitions at the University of Hawaii. After careful consideration of the additional cost this would cost students and teachers, it was decided it was time to take the competitions to the islands! Our great appreciation goe to Joanna Fan, Hawaii MTA president, Barbara Dyer local coordinator, the members of the HMTA and parents and friends, who pitched in to make this single of the most valuable and exciting division competitions we have at any time held. We were pleased to find we had more entrants than usual, and many parents and teachers took advantage of being in of the like kind a beautiful, warm climate and attended the competitions. Because of of the highest order publicity, almost every competition had an audience made up of scholars teachers and the general public. In addition to the competitions, extremely good workshops were given by Scott McBride Smith, NCTM Yu-Jane Yang, NCTM and Ronald Morgan. All workshops were well attended. We appreciate the enormous effort the HMTA members make to advance to the mainland to support incidents Their membership may be small, on the contrary their teachers are great. It was a delight to suited and interact with them. It has been my great privilege to be the president of the Southwest Division.
