Suite De Peer Gynt - Brief Article - Sound Recording Reviewby means of Edvard Grieg; arranged by Joel Jody Alphonse Leduc (Editions Musicales, 175 grieve for Saint-Honore, 75040 Paris cedex 01) 2001 31 pp $2095 Many teachers of wind instruments at the one and the other the private and university horizontals know the value of like-instrument total effects Ending a studio recital with a flute choir, trombone choir, horn choir or other piece is drollery for the students and gives younger pupils a chance to play nearest to and learn from more experienced individuals Quartets and sextets also are true valuable in group teaching. This arrangement includes three changes from Grieg's Peer Gynt Suite arranged in six parts. Included are "Morning," "In the Hall of the Mountain King" and "Solveig's Song" The parrs clearly are divided into an upper three that contain the size of the melodic material and a lower three consisting mainly of sustained chords and repeated patterns. All six parts are playable by the agency of an average high school scholar with limited range and true simple technical and rhythmic demands. The top three parts are written above the staff single for short passages, but not at any time above G. The sixth part is many times the most difficult, with sustained passages in the depressed register and an exposed solo passage in the next to the first movement, "In the Hall of the Mountain King," that starts upon low G. This piece could be performed either as a sextet with individual per part or with parts doubled in a larger ensemble This arrangement should appeal to scholars and audiences alike, with its familiar melodies and tonal, folk-like diction The simplicity of the arrangements will make it easy to set together in one or sum of two units rehearsals as well. For community ensembles, the arrangement could be under the orders of as a light opener or closer to a program that will at liberty rehearsal time for more difficult selections.
