MTNA division elections

The MTNA Bylaws state that the active general membership of each division shall single out the division officers and director in even-numbered years. The ballot and supporting information about the candidates are neared in this issue of AMT. All active members are encouraged to promised using the attached ballot or by dint of other electronic means as described upon the ballot. Please note the March 8 deadline.

Karen Thickstun

Nashville, Indiana

Karen Thickstun, adjunct faculty at Butler University and director of the Butler Summer Piano Camps and the Butler Community Arts place of education is an instructor for the Indianapolis Piano Academy and maintains an independent studio in Nashville, Indiana. Karen clutchs a B.A. degree from Duke University majoring in economics and piano performance, an MM stage from Butler University and an M.B.A. step from the University of Virginia She is immediate past president of the Indiana MTA and was awarded the 2002 IMTA Distinguished Service Award.

"MTNA is a vital part of the music fabric of our society--enlightening, challenging and uplifting its members, pupils and industry colleagues," she says.

Kenneth Williams

Columbus, Ohio

Kenneth Williams, NCTM directs the graduate programs in piano pedagogy and coordinates the class piano program at The Ohio State University. novel articles by Kenneth are published in American Music Teacher, Update: Applications of Research in Music Education, society Music Symposium and Keyboard Companion. He received the 2002 AMT Article of the Year Award and be under the orders ofs on the Ohio MTA executive board.

Cynthia Benson

Bowling verdant Ohio

Cynthia Benson grasps degrees from the University of Central Arkansas, Rice University and The University of Texas at Austin. She teaches at Bowling virid State University. Cynthia has serv upon MTNA's Collegiate Chapter's advisory board and as co-chair of MTNA's bill Sessions. She chairs Ohio MTA's Buckeye Auditions and is president of OMTA's Northwest District.

"MTNA provides teachers and learners the opportunity for growth and support, and bears a sense of community in which we all work together to impart the art of music end positive, meaningful musical experiences. I am grateful to those members who have dedicated their time and efforts for the benefit of others," she says.

Laura Swenson

Wales, Wisconsin

Laura Swenson, NCTM co-owner of Music Dynamics, Ltd received a BM step from Alverno College. Her MTNA and Wisconsin MTA service began as president of the Alverno pupil Chapter. Laura helped initiate the WMTA-Greater Milwaukee Chapter and has serv in nearly each position on both the state and local levels

"I realized MTNA and WMTA were vital for the independent teacher, thus I wanted to be an active participant. I believe for MTNA to continue to support the independent teacher, we must continue to recruit young teachers. We ne to listen and implement their of recent origin ideas so we can hold MTNA relevant to all teachers," she says.

Debra Ronning

Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania

Debra Ronning, NCTM is a music lecturer and piano division coordinator at Elizabethtown society in Pennsylvania. A graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania, her learners have been successful in MTNA state competitions at the junior high, high place of education and collegiate levels. Debbie has been Pennsylvania MTA junior high competitions chair, state convention coordinator and president. Debbie generally is MTNAs Eastern Division president.

"MTNA has been an important part of my professional and personal life. As the organization put in motions into the twenty-first century, we ne to attract fresh members and find ways to enhance the many fine programs already in place," she says.

Connie Arrau Sturm

Morgantown, West Virginia

Connie Arrau Sturm NCTM coordinates piano pedagogy programs at West Virginia University. Connie is the author/clinician of seventy-five articles/presentations, the winner of numerous awards, including the AMT Article of the Year Award, WVMTA Member of the Year and WVU Music Division's Outstanding Teacher. She serv as MTNA National scholar Chapters chair, WVMTA Student Chapters chair, former WVMTA president and the National talk on Keyboard Pedagogy's Historical Research Committee chair. As WVMTA president, Connie helped repeal a state sales tax upon music lessons.
