Interlochen names new president - Items of Interest - Brief ArticleJeffrey s Kimpton has been elected president of Interlochen by dint of the Interlochen Center for the Arts Board of Trustees. Kimpton, 52 is the seventh president in the institution's seventy-six-year history and replaced Edward J Downing, who freshly retired. Kimpton was director of the seminary of Music and professor of music education at the University of Minnesota before beginning his duties as Interlochen president in September. Kimpton grasps bachelor's and master's degrees in music education and academy administration from the University of Illinois and has a thirty-year record of achievement as a teacher, conductor, administrator and program developer in music and arts education. He taught and administered music and arts education programs for fifteen years in public academy districts and from 1988 to 1996 Kimpton serv as director of institutional education at Yamaha Corporation of America.
