Eastern Division - MTNA Division NewsThe Eastern Division talk and competitions will be held January 16-18 2004 at West Virginia University in Morgantown, West Virginia. Carol Beall, NCTM West Virginia president, has prepared the following article to inform members of the state's activities. West Virginia MTA places a high priority upon student activities. Each district clutchs a spring adjudicated event, as well as a noncompetitive fall festival. Last year, 875 learners in piano and strings participated in these facts In addition, we offered theory and keyboard technique proofs which drew almost 700 entries. Technology was the focus of our state convention in October. We entertainered Joy Carden and Susan Ogilvy as visitor clinicians. Students from around the state were chosen to participate in the statewide keyboard the whole Phillip Keveren was commissioned to write a piece, "Finale for Strings," for the teachers to perform. In addition to these activities, designed primarily for the "everyday student" West Virginia always supports an active MTNA competition with entries in many areas. The Mountain State competition also is held at our state convention for those who pick not to enter the MTNA competitions. We are committed to providing opportunities for our pupils to increase both their proficiency and their have affection for of music.
