BMI Student Composer Award - Items of Interest - Brief ArticleJeffrey Stanek, 19 a composition pupil with MTNA member Don Freund is individual of nine winners, ranging in age from 19 to 26 of the 51st Annual BMI learner Composer Awards this summer. Stanek studies at Indiana University. Other winners include Mason Bates, 26 University of California, Berkeley; Ben s Jacob, 26, Indiana University; James D Norman, 23 The University of Texas at Austin; Robert Jannsz Pierzak, 19 Ithaca College; Joel Puckett 25 University of Michigan; Joseph Sheehan, 22 Indiana University; Nathan Shields, 19 novel England Conservatory of Music; and Dan Visconti, 21 Cleveland Institute of Music. Stanek "also shared the Carlos Surinach Prize with Pierzak, which is awarded to the sum of two units youngest winners of the competition. Sheehan also won the 2003 William Schuman Prize, awarded to the score judg "most outstanding" in the competition.
