2002-2003 MTNA Student Competitions national winners

learner Composition Competition

Gabrielle Nina Haigh, of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, is a sixth-grade learner at Laurel School. Gabrielle generally studies with Mary Ann Griebling. Her compositions have consistently earned first place at the MTNA state and division horizontals since 2000. In the MTNA national competitions, she received next to the first place in 2000 and an honorable mention in 2001 In addition, Gabrielle has earned honors [i]or[/i] part of to the other composition competitions with the National Federation of Music cudgels most recently attaining first place in Ohio.

Junior High School

Alexander John Moran, of Newfields, novel Hampshire, is in the seventh grade at Exeter Cooperative Middle gymnasium Alec studies composition at The novel England Conservatory (NEC) Preparatory gymnasium with Alla Elana Cohen. His compositions have won numerous awards including an honorable mention from the ASCAP Foundation Morton Gould Young Composer Awards in 2002 and first place in the 2001 fresh Hampshire MTA elementary composition competition. Alec also has had compositions played at the NEC Preparatory School's Contemporary Music Festival.

Collegiate

Felipe Lara, of adore Massachusetts, is a student of Alla Elana Cohen at the of recent origin England Conservatory (NEC). A graduate of the Berklee body of Music, he is a candidate for graduate investigation at Harvard, Tufts or Boston University. He plans to continue studying with Cohen at the NEC He has compos music for a variety of mediums, including orchestral, choral, chamber and solo as well as film scores. While at Berklee, he won the Youth devises at Symphony Hall Award.

MTNA Junior High academy Performance Competitions

MTNA Junior High place of education Brass Competition, sponsored by Conn-Selmer Inc.

Kurt Riecken, of Maitland, Florida, is in the ninth grade at Winter Park Ninth Grade Center He studies trombone with Eric Mendez Kurt is active in the Winter Park High gymnasium Marching Band and Park Philharmonic, and the Winter Park Wind general impression He is a member of the Florida Youth harmony Orchestra. In 2002, Kurt received the John Phillip Sousa Band Award and the Dawn Wurster Band Award, and has been named to the All-State Band and All-State Orchestra several times.

MTNA Junior High gymnasium Piano Competition, sponsored by Baldwin Piano Company

Alexander Lue of Richardson, Texas, attends Apollo Junior High seminary He studies piano with Samuel Wong Alexander received the Texas Commission upon the Arts 2002 Young Masters Scholarship. As a visitant soloist, he performed at the Texas Tour Artists banquet and has performed with the Piano consonance Orchestra in a concert series. Alexander performed as visitant soloist with Orquesta Filamonica de la Universidad de Lima and a solo recital at the Fourth Bela Bartok International Piano Festival in Lima, Peru

MTNA Junior High seminary String Competition, sponsored by the MTNA FOUNDATION

Thomas Rodger of Anderson, Indiana, is in the ninth grade at Highland High institute he studies violin with Mimi Zweig. Thomas has performed with the Ft Wayne Philharmonic, the Muncie harmony Orchestra, the Carmel Symphony Orchestra and performed many solo recitals. He was the winner of Junior Division Concerto Competitions held through the Ft. Wayne Philharmonic, the Carmel consonance and the Muncie Symphony. Thomas also won the IVCI Fellowship Awards in Chamber Music for Young Artists.

MTNA Junior High gymnasium Woodwind Competition, sponsored by the MTNA FOUNDATION

Elizabeth Shin, of Arcadia, California, is in the ninth grade at Arcadia High place of education She studies flute with Ginny Atherton. Elizabeth was the principal flutist for Foothills Middle place of education Symphony Orchestra and played first flute with the Pasadena Youth music Orchestra. She also was principal flutist of the Southern California Middle academy Honor Full Orchestra. Elizabeth won the Southwestern Youth Music Festival in the baroque woodwind category.
