South Central Division - Division News - music teacher conventions - Brief ArticleWhat an exciting time to be an American Music Teacher! Being a part of Music Teachers National Association and specifically the southerly Central Division is such an honor. Sharing with teachers completely through the country is an inspiration. The national conversation is always a time of "refreshment" And as each state plans its state conversation we start to gear up for a great time of exposition, disentanglement and recapitulation. The Louisiana Music Teachers Association (LMTA) held its 50th annual convention in October 2001 at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond. The convention artists were pianist Arthur Greene from the University of Michigan and violinist Solomia Soroka. There was a repeat of last year's auspicious used music and books sale to benefit the MTNA FOUNDATION. Arkansas Music Teachers Association (ASMTA) has commissioned Norman Boehm of Hendrix corporation to write a short work for solo piano. ASMTA also welcomes a of recent origin local association, the North Central Arkansas Music Teachers Association. The state's nearest convention will be May 31-June 1 2002 at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock Oklahoma Music Teachers Association's state convention will be held May 31-June 1 2002 at the University of Oklahoma in Norman.
