Van Cliburn Competition for Amateurs - Competitions - Brief ArticleThe third International Piano Competition for Outstanding Amateurs will be managemented June 3-8, 2002, at ed Landreth Auditorium on the campus of Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas. The application deadline is March 1 2002 with notification of acceptance by dint of April 1. access is limited to a maximum of seventy-five participants, who must be at least thirty-five years aged by June 3, 2002. Applicants may not derive their principal source of income from either public piano performances or piano instruction. The preliminary circular will consist of individual recital programs not to exce twelve minutes each. Up to eighteen pianists will advance to the semifinal circular where each will present a program of no more than twenty minutes. From this cluster six finalists will be chosen to perform up to a thirty-minute program. Competitors are unrestrained to choose their own repertoire for each phase of the competition; however, no work may be repeated in succeeding rounds. Works do not have to be memorized. First Prize is a $2000 cash award and sum of two units tickets to the Twelfth Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. Numerous additional prizes will include a Pres Jury Award, Audience Award and special awards 4n various repertory categories. Potential participants are required to submit a fifteen-minute audition tape, along with the written application.
